Class 14 – Poverty: The Economic and Social Costs

Faculty in Charge: Dr. Oliver Rosales, Professor of History and Faculty Coordinator of the Social Justice Institute at Bakersfield College.

Objectives: 1.) Examine/discuss historical overview of poverty policy in the United States; 2) examine/discuss unique historical context of poverty in the San Joaquin Valley and efforts to overcome poverty; 3) examination of current statistics/policy implications related to poverty in the San Joaquin Valley from multiple perspectives, including student poverty, public health, substance abuse, etc.
